Turkish billionaires seem to grow by the year and if you consider the increasing investments made in Turkey, it's not unusual. Can we take a peek inside their portfolios and see where they put their money? We can if their businesses rank on one of the world's stock exchanges.
Husnu Ozyegin interests me a lot because this year he will open a new private university. With all that money, he should have one of the very best Turkish universities, but I have to wonder how a new learning environment can be opened so soon. Has it been years in the making or yet another private Turkish university opening after just a few months of work?
Sabanci spent three years forming the foundation of their university which paid off greatly. It entered the market high on the list of the best private Turkish universities and maintains that ranking today after nine years.
So what could make the difference for Mr. Ozyegin in his education endeavors? He's a self-made billionaire. Yes, money helps, but he made it on his own, and undoubtedly knows well what it takes to create and grow a successful organization.
He's in his early 60's and by American standards the age to pursue the dreams he wants for the sake of society. His financial feats made him the money to now invest in something close to his heart.
Evidently, education attracts him a lot because, in 2005 after the sell of his Gima chain, he gave scholarships to 7,000 students for university expenses.
Mr. Ozyegin is an American-educated graduate of Oregon State University and Harvard University and founded Finansbank, Turkey's 5th largest. Not bad credentials, eh? Let's see what he does with his university.
