There's a moving truck on a corner near you in Istanbul and probably all over Turkey. How convenient—walk down the street and strike a deal. These dubious movers may be there when you need them, but do you really want to hire them?
Movers can be wonderful or leave you speechless. The wonderful ones know how to come in and take everything away without a hitch. Piece of cake!
The rogue movers can leave you without money and belongings and the damage you incur could cost you lots more.
Don't trust your household move to just anyone, or you may find disappointments ahead. Your sanity may be tested if your movers have never moved a piece of furniture or act like they haven't.
When I made my first move in Istanbul, I lived in an apartment with staircases so wide you could drive an army though them. But, the stairs weren't big enough for a double-size mattress! Go figure.
The movers couldn't figure out how to get the bed down the stairs. Well, master mover, with over 120 moves under her belt, showed them how, and then even picked it up and told the head guy ahead to get going.
It was like I had turned on a light switch before it was invented. They couldn't believe I could do such a thing.
There are many international and local movers in Istanbul to make your move easier and many are well-known companies throughout Turkey. So, get a referral!
If you want a truly well-organized team, yes, I did say team, of movers to embark on your door path and move you without a hitch, I recommend mine.
Why? These guys are assigned to teams of six, each with a particular job. They work together on the same team every day. When the estimator came, he gave me a written estimate and told me when they'd arrive and what time they'd finish.
You can bank on it. From the time they came to my place (on time) until they finished at the new place, only 3 hours had passed. My new place was only a few miles away, but I had an entire household to move. And all of it for 500 YTL!
I've never seen such an organized crew. Not only that, but since I was a foreigner, they sent a crew with multiple language ability. How about that for service!
Usually my biggest worry is how much damage will happen. Well, this last move eclipsed any I've had. Perfect. There wasn't even a scratch on any of my furniture and nary a glass broken.
Do you want to know where you can find this great moving company? Before I do, let me tell you something you may not know.
In Turkey, movers don't get paid well and it's inexpensive to hire a moving company. Also, they carry most everything by stairs, not elevators, and on their backs too. The moving crew will appreciate it if you give them something extra to share with the team. Give 20-25YTL for each person would be great.
